Will the user wish to propel themselves at any
time?
1/ If so then you will need to look at all self-propelled
wheel chairs.
2/ If the user will not be propelling themselves
you will need to search the transit
wheel chairs.
Size of Wheel Chair
1/ 18" seat width is the average size of any
wheelchair usually carrying a 18 stone maximum user
weight
2/ Larger seat widths can be purchased 20"
or 22" this will increase the cost of
the wheelchair depending on the type and make you
select. This is usually a steel wheel chair and not
available in an aluminum frame.
3/ A wheel chair with a 16 " seat width can
also be purchased possibly for a child or very small
adult. either select self-propelled or transit
wheel chairs to view all available models.
Consideration for Carer / Friend / Family Member
1/ Consider if the wheel chair at any time will be
put into a vehicle.
2/ What lifting power will the carer have? If they
can manage 10 to 15 kg's then either a transit or self-propelled steel will be most cost effective. If this is too
heavy then an aluminum
wheel chair weighing between 7 - 10 kg's which
is more expensive but better suited.
3/ Has the carer the ability to push the wheelchair
up and down steep slopes, self-propelled wheels are
useful if the user has the ability to help the carer,
if not then you may want to consider a battery pack
or (power stroll). This device will aid the carer
by allowing the wheel chair to be operated by a lever.

event that the item you are looking for is not listed
